We’re excited to share some beautiful Filipino wedding traditions with you, each rich in symbolism and meaning. Here’s a little background so you can enjoy the ceremony even more.

TRADITIONS

Cord and Veil

The veil is draped over our shoulders to symbolize being “clothed as one” in unity, while the cord is placed in a figure-eight around us to represent the infinite bond of our marriage.

Candle

The lighting of the candle represents the joining of our individual lights into one flame, guiding us together through life’s journey.

Coins

The Arras (Arrhae) is a Filipino wedding tradition where sponsors present coins that the groom gives to the bride, symbolizing prosperity, blessings, and their commitment to a shared future.

During the Money Dance, guests pin bills onto the bride and groom as they dance, wishing them prosperity and happiness. It’s a joyful tradition and a way to support the couple as they begin their new life—guests are encouraged to bring cash if they’d like to join in.
